This emergency repair project was necessitated by the collapse of four spans of the existing structure from a barge collision on May 26, 2002. In 12 days, Poe & Associates was able to complete full repair plans that included three new pre-stressed concrete beam spans, replacement of an existing structural steel span, and associated details. Construction of this $10.1 million project was completed in 47 days.
In 2002, this project was awarded the Grand Conceptor (1st Place) Engineering Excellence Award for Outstanding Oklahoma Project by the Consulting Engineers Council of Oklahoma. Then, in 2003, the project was awarded the National Engineering Excellence Honor Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies.
